Yes! The 2011 Southern Ontario Oyster Shucking Championship and fundraiser (to benefit Environmental Defence, our charity partner for 20+ years) is happening Sunday, July 17th from 2 to 10 pm in the alley beside the restaurant. 900 people, 35 shuckers, 9 beer reps, wines from Cave Springs, lobster, chili, fried clams, with live music from the Waxbills and Samantha Martin and the Haggard, and beats by DJ LTRuck.
The theme this year is “Grit Happens,” featuring Rodney as Rooyster Cocksburning, Eamon as Ned “Dr.” Pepper, and Michel Longuet as “LeBeef.” Rodney will be serving up his special Teaser, and Iceberg’s Saloon Girls will be pouring shots for the masses. Doors open at 2 pm; shucking contest registration runs 2 – 3:15pm, contest starts at 4:15.
Entrance is $30, and that gets you in the door with tickets for 2 beers and 6 oysters (or a bowl of Western Chili). Event tickets are available to purchase at the door, but to avoid the line, you’re better off buying in advance, either by stopping off at the House and asking a member of the crew, or by calling 416-363-8105 x 22. When you’re shucking the Oyster, remember … Grit Happens.
