The Ontario Oyster Festival

Well, another Oyster Festival is in the books, and we are on track to smash our previous best fundraising effort.  Huge crowds finished the lobsters at about 7pm, 12000 oysters consumed, along with hundreds of litres of beer.  The 2013 Oyster Eating Contest saw Jay Mandarino retain his title (this time on a stationary bike) and the 2013 Ontario Shucking Championships saw Rodneys’ own Duncan Chris (#3) and Julius Chapple (#2) finish strong, with Montreal oysterman Daniel Notkin taking the top honours.  Great music from God Made Me Funky to close out the night. Photos on Facebook.  All in all, a hugely successful day.  Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us and Environmental Defense.

Next up, competitively, is the 2013 Canadian Shucking Championships, taking place as always in Tyne Valley PEI.  Defending (and 5-time) Champ Eamon Clark is set to defend his title against a determined group of aspirants, and we hope that someone from the House brings the trophy back for the 5th year in a row.  If any of you are in PEI the August long weekend, head over to Tyne Valley on Friday August 2 for the festivities. “It’s about an hour’s drive.”  Their website is here:  http://www.tynevalleyoysterfestival.ca/oyster/HOME.html

We hope you enjoyed yourselves. Congratulations to the winners!
